Difference Between Counseling & Coaching

Counseling focuses on healing the hurts of your past. Whereas coaching focuses on taking you from wherever you are now, identifies what changes you want to make and who you want to become, and then targets intentional steps to get you there.

There is a difference between counseling and coaching. Counseling focuses on healing the hurts of your past and is often a passive process with many counselors having an expectation of client epiphanies for how to help themselves just from discussing their past or problems over and over again. It is true that changes are more likely to stick when one comes up with them by themselves, yet it is often a slow process. In contrast, coaching focuses on taking you from wherever you are in the present, identifies what changes you want to make and who you want to become, and then targets intentional steps to get you there.

I much prefer to help people move forward than to remain focused on an unhappy past. This is why, despite having a Master’s degree in pastoral counseling and having worked as a counselor for a corporation de-escalating crisis cases every day, I decided to leave that world and pursue my true passion of active coaching. My worldview is Biblical, my calling is to help people, and I feel I can help people the best through coaching. Therefore, I offer my services as a coach and will refer you elsewhere if you are seeking counseling. My certifications include addiction recovery coaching, advanced Christian life coaching, and parenting coaching. In addition, I have completed continuing education courses in childhood attachment, stress, trauma, codependency, narcissism, and sexual trafficking.

Why should I hire a coach?

As a Christian life coach, I do believe that everyone has the potential to live a purposeful and fulfilling life. My goal as a coach is to help you discover your unique gifts and talents and to guide you towards using them to make a positive impact in the world. Here are some reasons why you should consider hiring me as your coach:

As your coach, I will work with you one-on-one to develop a personalized plan for achieving your goals while simultaneously overcoming obstacles. I will take the time to get to know you, understand your values, and investigate your aspirations. We will work together to create a tailored plan specific for your needs.

One of the biggest benefits of having a coach is the accountability factor. I will hold you accountable for following through on the commitments that you make to yourself, and I will help you stay on track when obstacles arise. By having someone to answer to, you are more likely to stay motivated and committed to your goals.

Drawing from a Biblical perspective, I will provide you with expert guidance and support throughout your coaching journey. I believe that God has a plan for each of us, and I will help you discern what that plan is, and how you can use your unique gifts and talents to fulfill it.
As your coach, I will provide you with a safe and confidential space to discuss your concerns and struggles. I understand that sometimes it can be difficult to share your thoughts and feelings with others, and I am here to listen with compassion and understanding.
I believe that personal growth is a lifelong journey, and I am committed to supporting you for as long as you need. Whether you are looking to make a major life change or simply need ongoing support to stay on track, I am here to help.
